Deloitte appointed administrator to Comet

DELOITTE has confirmed that it is set to be appointed as administrator to struggling retailer Comet.

The retailer announced yesterday it would be entering administration next week in a move that threatened around 6,000 jobs.

A Deloitte spokesman said last night: “We can confirm that Comet has filed an intention to appoint Deloitte as Administrators during the week commencing November 5.

“Deloitte will not be commenting further prior to any such appointment taking place.”

It has been reported that more than 6,000 jobs are under threat at Comet as the electricals chain has been struggling to stock up for Christmas.

Staff were understood to have been informed of the plans yesterday with Deloitte set to be lined up to handle the administration and seek a buyer.

The group was founded by George Hollingberry in 1933 in Hull as Comet Battery Stores.
OpCapita has owned Comet for 10 months after buying the group for just £2 from Kesa Electricals.

However, Opcapita received a £50m cash dowry from Kesa, now known as Darty, to take over the 235-strong store chain.
