GROB takes space to support UK operations

AUTOMOTIVE and aerospace industry supplier GROB UK has taken a ten-year lease of 2,500 sq ft of office space at The Waterside Centre at Birmingham Business Park.

The letting agent was GBR Phoenix Beard.

GROB employs 4,000 people at sites worldwide and its parent company GROB-WERKE is based in Mindelheim in Bavaria.

The company will employ 12 people from its new offices on Birmingham Business Park and it will undertake sales and service activities from the new base.  GROB supplies production systems and machining solutions and the automotive and aerospace industry is its primary market.

The Midlands is home to around a quarter of the UK’s aerospace sector and campus-style business parks have historically been highly attractive to suppliers to the industry.

Earlier this year Aero Engine Controls, a joint venture between Rolls Royce and Goodrich Corporation announced it was investing £60m in a 250,000 sq ft advanced manufacturing and technology centre at Birmingham Business Park, with staff set to relocate to the new facility in 2014.

The revived prospects within the UK aerospace and automotive manufacturing sectors are behind the resurgence in lettings at some of the region’s out-of-town business parks.

Richard Fletcher-Brewer, an associate director in GBR Phoenix Beard’s office agency team and letting agent for the scheme said: “GROB’s profile is typical of many of the companies we are talking to about opportunities at The Waterside.”

The Waterside Centre  is managed by Ignis UK Property Fund.

GBR Phoenix Beard, Jones Lang LaSalle and Robertson Brown are advising the landlord on the remaining space for both office and retail use.
