Enterprise Inns recognised at PLC awards

SOLIHULL-based pub company, Enterprise Inns, has scooped a top award at this year’s national PLC awards. The company won the accolade in the best performing share price category.
In addition to Enterprise Inn’s success, London-based brewer and pubco Fuller, Smith and Turner – owner of Birmingham’s Old Joint Stock – won the title of Company of the Year.
Provident Financial, headquartered in Bradford, scooped the top award for best investor communication.
This year’s shortlist saw 18 businesses based outside London vying for accolades. Two Midlands-based entrepreneurs were shortlisted in the highly-competitive entrepreneur of the year category – Will Adderley, of Dunelm Group and Mike Ashley, of Sports Direct International. The eventual winner was Ray Kelvin, of Ted Baker.
The awards, sponsored by PwC, and produced jointly with Ford Sinclair, attracted 1,500 guests, including quoted companies, investment banks, fund managers, investment analysts, and corporate advisers. Established 27 years ago, the awards celebrate the best in the mid-market business sector and its importance to the UK economy.
Commenting on the awards, Mark Smith, regional chairman of PwC in the Midlands, said: “Mid-market companies in the Midlands and in other UK regions are a key cog of the engine which drives the British economy. These companies remain an integral part of the UK’s drive towards a complete financial recovery. These awards showcase the very best of the mid-market. Both the winners and those nominated stood out from a raft of fellow candidates of real quality.”
