CBD plays host to Flatpack’s Film Bug for second year

COLMORE Business District (CBD), Birmingham’s commercial quarter, will play host to mini movie festival Film Bug this week.

The festival starts on Thursday and finishes on Saturday. It is the second year running that CBD has hosted it.

The screenings – which are mostly free of charge – will place in and around the CBD area at venues such as Birmingham Cathedral, Yorks Bakery and Great Western Arcade.

Programme highlights include Sol Cinema, the world’s smallest solar powered cinema, and Keyhole from Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin, shown in association with Birmingham International Film Society.

Film Bug forms part of the seventh Flatpack Festival, held across Birmingham over the same dates.

Diane Benussi, board director of CBD, said: “Last year’s Film Bug proved incredibly popular with both those who work within the district as well as bringing in new visitors, so we are thrilled to be able to offer such a varied programme for 2013.

“Some events, such as Ben Waddington’s Subterranean, have already sold out which is a great early sign.

“There is still plenty to see however, hosted in places people wouldn’t generally expect to watch film. So whether you enjoy animation, silent comedy or even live opera performance I’d encourage you to come down to CBD this week and catch the Film Bug yourself.”
