MIDLAND law firm mfg Solicitors has confirmed it is in the final stages of talks to acquire Shropshire legal practice Phillips & Co.

Based in Ludlow, Phillips & Co is a two-partner private client practice specialising in residential and commercial property, conveyancing, wills and probate.

Headed by father and son George and Peter Stephens, the firm was established by Major Fitzroy Phillips in 1954. It now has a team of six based between the main office in Ludlow and a smaller office in Craven Arms.

Maynard Burton, partner and chairman at mfg Solicitors, said that when completed the deal would allow mfg  to offer additional commercial, employment, litigation, family, tax and agricultural expertise to Phillips & Co clients.

“Phillips & Co is well regarded throughout the West Midlands and both George and Peter have built a strong client base over many successful years,” he said.

“Their experience, track-record and values fit perfectly with ours and bringing them into mfg will allow Phillips & Co to offer a wider range of expertise and skills to their clients.

“We are in the final stages of talks for what is an exciting deal. Once concluded we look forward to welcoming George, Peter and the rest of the Phillips & Co team to mfg.”

Managing partner at mfg Suzanne Lee is leading the deal which is set to be completed by June 1.
