Carillion confirmed as contractor on Manchester Airports Group projects

WOLVERHAMPTON construction giant Carillion is one of three companies to be appointed by Manchester Airports Group to deliver £500m worth of capital projects across its portfolio.

Carillion, Galliford Try and BAM Construction have been selected to deliver work on terminals, runways, car parks at Manchester and MAG’s other airports – Stansted, East Midlands and Bournemouth.

The framework agreement will run for three years with the option for two 12-month extensions.

Andrew Cowan, chief operating officer for Manchester Airports Group (MAG), said: “The group has doubled in size this year with the acquisition of London Stansted and with a number of major projects due to get underway, we wanted to have a group of partners alongside us capable of delivering high-quality engineering and construction work so that we can continue to develop the business.

“We’ve also selected partners that are capable of covering the wide geographical footprint of our operations as we now have airports in London, the South, Midlands and the North of the country.

“They are also experienced in the aviation sector and will get to use those skills across a wide array of assets including runways, terminals, car parks and our property portfolio. We need partners that share our vision and drive so we are pleased to have secured three companies of suitable scale to our framework roster.”

Galliford Try’s chief executive Greg Fitzgerald said: “We are delighted to have been successful in securing a place on this substantial framework. This award demonstrates the strength that the diversity of our business operations represents and we look forward to working with Manchester Airports Group on their many exciting projects.”

Adrian Blackie, BAM’s framework leader, said: “We’re delighted by our place on this framework which reflects the diversity of BAM’s skills in being able to deliver high quality buildings in different market sectors.

“The same expertise and care we are using to deliver Manchester’s City Football Academy (CFA) and that was behind our new headquarters for the Co-Operative Group also drives our ability to deliver complex buildings for the aviation sector.”
