UK Mail secures Croatian distribution deal

LOGISTICS firm UK Mail has prepared for Croatia’s entry into the EU next month by signing a collaboration deal with a transport business based in the country.

West Midland-based UK Mail said Croatia’s arrival into the EU was set to lead to significant changes for the transport industry and new opportunities for suppliers.

It said the supply chain would become cheaper and faster due to the elimination of custom duties, therefore there would be no delays when shipping parcels.

UK Mail’s has partnered with Eurodis, a transport network for shipments ranging from 1kg parcels to 800kg pallets with links into 34 European countries.

The agreement will introduce daily transport lines between Croatia and Germany from July, from which UK Mail will tap into.

Carsten Siebe, managing director at Eurodis, said: “Companies like Eurodis, who are specialised in international transport will see a sharp increase in volumes.”

The Croatian partner and shareholder of Eurodis is Overseas Express, the market leader in the combined freight sector. UK Mail’s deliveries will go through Overseas Express once they have arrived in Croatia.

‘‘We have been a member of the Eurodis network since 2010,” said Boris Brkovic, CEO at Overseas Express.

“Based on this stable collaboration, a project team is already working on operational adjustments to ensure the best possible lead times in anticipation of increasing shipment volumes.”

Similar to Siebe, Brkovic said he expected “an essential increase in international volumes, especially on imports from other EU countries as a result of the removal of customs duties”.

Guy Buswell, CEO of UK Mail, added: “International delivery is on the rise, we want to be able to offer our customers a streamlined delivery service. We’ve worked with Eurodis over a number of years and are a trusted partner of ours. We look forward to developing our relationship with our Croatian Partners and we’re sure to see a rise in international shipping due to the inception of Croatia joining the EU.”
