Carillion secures £130m Abu Dhabi hotel contract

WOLVERHAMPTON-based Carillion’s has been awarded a £130m contract to design and build a luxury hotel on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi’s new Central Business District.
The contract, awarded by Mubadala Development Company, has been secured by Carillion’s joint venture business in the United Arab Emirates, Al Futtaim Carillion.
Construction of the five-star hotel, which will be 144m high and have a floor area of 100,000m², starts this month and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2015.
Carillion said the contract win reflected the strong relationship between Al Futtaim Carillion and MDC, for whom the JV is currently delivering two other contracts in Abu Dhabi, namely, the £600m contract to construct New York University Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island and a £20m enabling works contract for the Advanced Military Maintenance Repair Overhaul Centre at Al Ain.
Carillion chief executive, Richard Howson, said: “We are delighted to have been selected for this prestigious contract, which reflects our reputation for delivering high-quality projects. The contract was classified as a probable order in Carillion’s interim management statement n May.
