New defence focus welcomed in Hereford

THE Hereford Enterprise Zone, which has a specialist focus on the defence and security sector, has welcomed the launch of a new strategic vision for the UK’s defence sector.

Speaking following the launch of “Securing Prosperity – a strategic vision for the UK Defence Sector”, Bill Jackson, chairman of the enterprise zone, said: “The launch of this vision demonstrates the important role that the defence and security sector continues to have to the wider UK economy and should be welcomed by all those involved in the industry.

“Herefordshire is already well-known throughout the UK for its expertise in the defence and security sector and we’ve been working hard in recent months to further develop this specialism. 

“In particular we’ve focused on promoting Skylon Park to defence and security companies in North America and Canada especially those working in the C4ISTAR specialism of the sector, , Bio-Metrics and Cyber Security, and Defence Support Equipment.  It is therefore encouraging to see the government hinting at the future importance of aerospace and intelligent systems.

“Here in Hereford we have the infrastructure and heritage to support defence and security businesses from the largest multi-nationals through to smaller SMEs who have a vital role to play in the sector, and look forward to working with government and others in the industry to further strengthen this vital part of the UK economy.”
