CPBigwood marches south following acquisition

BIRMINGHAM property firm CPBigwood has bought a chartered surveying firm in Hampshire, a move which give it a further foothold in the lucrative South East market.

It has taken over Eastleigh-based DMA Chartered Surveyors for an undisclosed sum.

DMA specialises exclusively in residential leasehold property and manages around 3,000 apartments and houses, primarily in Hampshire and Dorset.

DMA Chartered Surveyors will trade as CPBigwood and bring 13 staff into the firm. CPBigwood now employs 140.

CPBigwood partner Brett Williams, who led the negotiations, said the acquisition takes the number of properties managed by the firm to more than 20,000 across 30 counties.

“We already look after around 500 units in Hampshire on various sites, and it was becoming clear to us that there was scope for expansion of our property management portfolio in the south,” he said.

“DMA Chartered Surveyors was a natural choice as they specialise exclusively in residential leasehold property and we found we had a number of clients in common.

“We also have a number of freehold property investors with properties in Hampshire, Dorset and the south coast and clearly having a base there will give them increased confidence in our ability to manage their portfolios.”

CPBigwood grew out of the merger of West Midlands property consultants Bigwood and Curry & Partners in June 2011 and the firm also acquired Leicestershire based Lloyds Property Management as its East Midlands office in September 2012.

Black Country law firm Higgs & Sons acted for CPBigwood and DMA Chartered Surveyors were represented by Paris Smith of Southampton.
