Marketing Birmingham awards national PR brief to Liquid

BROMSGROVE-based communications consultancy Liquid has won a major PR contract from Marketing Birmingham after a hotly-contested bidding process.

Following the six-week process, which attracted 60 expressions of interest and resulted in a four-way pitch, Liquid has been tasked with delivering national PR support for leisure tourism programme Visit Birmingham and business tourism programme Meet Birmingham – both operated by the city’s strategic marketing partnership Marketing Birmingham.

The 12-month brief will see Liquid work to enhance perceptions of Birmingham, the Black Country and Solihull by generating positive coverage in the national and international media. Visit Birmingham activity will include seasonal campaigns focusing on the city’s food, culture and Christmas offering while work to support Meet Birmingham will focus on the organisation’s presence at major trade shows, event wins and new product announcements.

Amanda Lowe, head of communications for Marketing Birmingham, said: “It is essential we stay a step ahead of the competition – Birmingham is a destination that surprises many, bringing those who visit back time and again. Our partnership with Liquid will serve to boost awareness and drive interest in the city further still.”

Liquid’s managing director Jason MacKenzie, who will lead the client team, said: “I’m passionate about Birmingham. It’s a vibrant, creative and cultural city that deserves to be known as such. Liquid is excited to play a role in developing the city’s positioning and enhancing how it’s perceived, through persuasive communications.”

The contract, supported by the European Regional Development Fund through its Investing in the City Region project, starts immediately and runs until September 2014, with scope for it to be extended to the end of 2015.

No monetary value has been put on the contract.
