National Express shortlisted for Berlin rail contract

TRANSPORT company National Express has been shortlisted for the Berlin Ringbahn, the railway line of the Berlin S-Bahn around the city centre.

The line is currently operated by Deutsche Bahn.

Dean Finch, group chief executive of the Birmingham-based firm, said:  “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the Berlin Ringbahn.

“Following on from our recent success in winning two contracts to operate regional rail services in North-Rhine Westphalia, it confirms that our experience as the operator of the UK’s leading franchise is recognised internationally.

“Our strong local team is already focused on putting together a high quality bid to deliver excellent services for customers and the people of Berlin.”

In February National Express was selected to run two 15 year regional commuter rail contracts in Germany, serving cities including Cologne and Bonn.

In April National Express launched city2city, its German coach network, leveraging its Spanish and UK experience and systems.
