GVA seeking buyer for Clarendon Suites site

PROPERTY consultancy GVA is looking for a buyer for the site which houses Birmingham events venue Clarendon Suites.

Extending to 3.5 acres the site, which accommodates the 78,000 sq ft Clarendon Suites, is on Hagley Road in Edgbaston.

Designed by architect John Madin, the Clarendon Suites is a well-known events venue within the city, staging conferences, exhibitions and banquets.

The site owner, Warwickshire Masonic Temple, has for some time been looking to explore the opportunities to relocate to a bespoke building, following the demands of the organisation to move to a facility south of Birmingham city centre.

GVA is considering both wholly unconditional offers for the site as well as conditional offers – subject to planning – for the wholesale redevelopment of the plot.

The firm’s Mark Birks said: “The site’s prominent position on Hagley Road makes it suitable for a range of options, including residential, leisure and healthcare uses.

“The site is enhanced by a resolution to grant for a residential planning consent for 84 residential units granted last year which establishes some interesting principles in terms of layout and massing.”

David Macey from the Edgbaston Masonic Temple, said: “The Hagley Road site is exceedingly prominent but is now too large for our requirements. We are now looking for either new or refurbished space of between 15,000 to 20,000 sq ft.”
