CLOSING REPORT: Headline shares put aside early losses to finish the day higher, following rises on Wall Street and strength amongst miners
At close, the FTSE 100 was up 21.92 points at 5429.74, with the FTSE 250 closing up 38.3 points at 10,219.6.
LONDON MARKETS
Those shares closing the day higher included Icap, up 3.5% at 434.1p, closely followed by Inmarsat, which ended the day up 3.26% at 712p.
In the Midlands, JSJS Designs enjoyed a successful day, rising more than 80% at one stage on news of a new £300,000 share placing to generate working capital.
