40 teams compete in Higgs & Sons’ charity football tournament

BLACK Country firm Higgs & Sons welcomed 350 local professionals from businesses across the region to its annual charity football tournament.
 
This year’s event, which took place at Stourbridge Rugby Club, raised more than £4,000 for the firm’s designated charity for 2014, The Prince’s Trust.
 
The eventual winner was accountancy firm Nicklin which defeated the Higgs team in the final. Another accountancy firm, Mazars, finished third with Jonathan Lee Recruitment winning the Plate.
 
Richard Griffiths, a partner in Higgs’ corporate team organised the annual event. He said: “This is the eighth year which we have run the football tournament and its popularity continues to grow year on year.
 
“With 40 teams taking part this year, we’re extremely proud to host what has become the foremost corporate sporting event in the region.
 
“Everybody appeared to enjoy the day and we managed to raise a considerable amount for a fantastic cause.”  
  

TOA Taxis transport World War Two veterans

TAXI firm TOA volunteered three of its vehicles to transport 15 World War Two veterans and their wives to and from Swanshurst School in Birmingham on Monday 30th June, for Veterans’ Day.

Veterans’ Day, organised by Selly Oak MP, Steve McCabe, and Swanshurst School, is now in its seventh year.

The event sees Veteran’s from WW2 and conflicts after pass on their stories and experiences to the younger generation. Swanshurst School has built up an oral history website which documents these stories.

TOA, whose drivers also attended the event in support of the veterans, is Birmingham’s oldest taxi firm in the Midlands having been formed in 1961

JLR workers to support Invictus Games

SOME 150 Jaguar Land Rover employees will have the opportunity to work as volunteers supporting the Invictus Games, the international sports event for wounded armed forces personnel championed by Prince Harry.

They will make up a quarter of the 600 volunteers helping to run the Games, with others coming from the armed services and event sponsors. 

Jaguar Land Rover is the presenting partner of the Invictus Games, which take place between September 10 and 14 at venues used by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Simon Lenton, human resources director of Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The company has been inspired by the vision for the Invictus Game, and we wanted to give some of our colleagues the chance to help deliver them

“This will be a life-enhancing experience for the volunteers. Their reasons for applying range from personal and family involvement in the armed forces to their own experience of sport’s power to help recovery from illness or injury.”

ehB Residential aids primary school’s funds push

ESTATE agency ehB Residential signed up to help boost funds at a Leamington primary school.

Property agent ehB Residential, which has offices in Leamington and Warwick, teamed up with Milverton Primary School on Greatheed Road to sponsor its 11th annual summer fair.

The event included a variety of fundraising activities including stalls, arts and crafts activities, a bouncy castle and a summer BBQ. 

It is the second time ehB Residential has helped to raise money for Milverton Primary School after it donated more than £500 to the school’s parent-teacher association (PTA) at last year’s Christmas fair.

Money raised contributes towards the school’s main fundraising aim of raising £20,000 to upgrade and install a new computer system.
