Headline shares tipped to open higher

PRE-OPEN REPORT: Headline shares are tipped to open fifty to fifty-four points higher today, according to financial websites, after stalling in recent sessions, on a day devoid of corporate earnings news.

In the US last night, the Dow rose 22 points at 10,595, the Nasdaq Composite added 2 points at 2,303 and the S&P500 was flat at 1,125.

In Asia today, the Nikkei was last up 93 points at 9,602, while the Hang Seng ended the morning ahead 234 points at 21,925.

Crude oil traded at $74.57 a barrel on Nymex.

Gold settled at $1,277 an ounce.

LONDON MARKETS

In a quiet corporate diary today, interim results are due from Active Energy Group, Cinpart and Queen’s Walk Investment.

In the Midlands yesterday, Hampson Industries put a lot of its recent troubles behind it surging more than 58% on the announcment of a £34m tooling order , while vitamins supplier NeutraHealth also enjoyed a significant rise on news it on the verge of a £12m takeover .
