Former Black Country UTC student secures Siemens apprenticeship

A FORMER Black Country University Technical College student has successfully secured an apprenticeship with multinational engineering and electronics giant Siemens.

Charlotte Hall, 17, has beaten off competition from other hopefuls to be offered the prestigious Healthcare Engineering Apprenticeship with the German company.

She studied a Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Engineering with the Walsall-based Black Country UTC last year and will now spend the next four years studying and working at various hospital sites with a team of 200 engineers. They are responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of Siemens medical systems.

The teenager felt the best way to achieve her ambitions of becoming an engineer was by taking the apprenticeship route and earning while she learns.

“I’m really looking forward to starting my apprenticeship and to be doing it with such a major engineering employer is fantastic,” she said.

“As Siemens are in partnership with the Black Country UTC, I have previously been given the opportunity to work on briefs and projects during my studies.

“It will be challenging, but studying at the BCUTC has enriched my industry skills, knowledge and experiences to thrive in the workplace. The consistent support I have received from both staff and employers has given me the confidence to truly excel in engineering.”

Gordon Mills, Business Director at the Black Country UTC, which is sponsored by Walsall College, said: “Due to Charlotte’s consistent hard work, focus and commitment, this fantastic news comes as no surprise. I’m confident she will excel in engineering and go on to succeed. I wish her all the best in the future.

“Siemens invest heavily in skills and training in the UK. These apprenticeships nurture young engineering talent, which in turn, will benefit the economy.”

Siemens Healthcare is one of the world’s largest suppliers to the healthcare industry and a trendsetter in medical imaging, laboratory diagnostics and medical information technology.
