600 jobs at risk as travel firm Tui announces closure of Coventry operation

A TRAVEL firm has announced it is closing its Coventry base, leaving 600 jobs at risk.

Tui, which operates holiday brands Thomson and First Choice, said the office at Westwood Business Park would be shut by December next year.

It said the proposals were part of a long-term strategy to make the firm an online-driven business.

A company statement said some roles would be relocated to Swansea and its head office in Luton and others would be outsourced.

“The proposed changes are not a reflection on the great work done serving customers by all the teams based in Coventry,” the statement said.

“They are the result of many months of research, consideration and discussion about the future of how Tui UK and Ireland communicates with customers and the conclusions have not been reached lightly.”

A 45-day consultation process on the proposals begins on October 2.
