Lifestyle: Opus in the fast lane for Brabham fundraiser

MOTOR racing enthusiasts in the West Midlands have the opportunity to join two generations of the renowned Brabham family at a motorsport-themed charity dinner in the city later this month.
David Brabham, son of three-time Formula One world champion Sir Jack Brabham, and his son Sam will be joining guests at Opus at Cornwall Street on Friday November 21 for an exclusive ‘Life in the Fast Lane’ three-course meal, while they share the inside story on being part of the most iconic family name in motor racing.
The event is being organised in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and the British Heart Foundation.
Hosting a Q&A session with guests, David, who is best known for his Formula 1 career as well as winning the 2009 Le Mans 24 Hour race, will steer diners through his illustrious story while his son Sam talks about following in both his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps to carve out his own successful racing career.
Organised by Forresters, Jason Wouhra, of East End Foods and Clive Reeves PR, the event has a special motor racing-themed menu created by Opus’ chef director David Colcombe in collaboration with the Brabhams.
Tickets are priced at £100 per person including champagne reception and wine, and are available individually or for tables of 10.
Matt Shaw, partner at Forresters, said: “Brabham is one of the most famous names in Formula One and endurance racing and there isn’t much that the family hasn’t seen or done in motorsport. As well as a unique opportunity to chat candidly with David and Sam, we’re extremely lucky to have an original Brabham car, raced by Sir Jack himself, on display at the restaurant.”
The evening will feature a ‘money can’t buy’ auction and raffle with prizes including invitation-only access to watch the British Grand Prix from the British Racing Drivers’ Club at Silverstone as well as donations from the likes of Aston Martin and Birmingham Royal Ballet.
