Waste not want not as engineering firm reports rapid growth

A TAMWORTH engineering company is reporting “phenomenal growth” with the help of a grant from the Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce Jobs and Growth Fund.

A & S Compaction specialises in the repair and refurbishment of machinery for the waste and recycling industries.

Founded in 1981 by Stan Reeves, the firm began as a mobile repair service with just one van visiting waste plants across the Midlands to repair heavy machinery.

The one man business became a limited company seven years ago when Stan’s son, Tom joined the business and plans were put in place for expansion.

Company director Emma Reeves said: “From fixing waste compactors on site, we have now grown to provide a full service with our own engineering facilities offering the capabilities to repair and refurbish machinery for the waste compaction industry.

Business has boomed since a decision to apply for Jobs and Growth funding to aid a move to new premises on the Lichfield Road Industrial Estate, Tamworth, earlier this year.

The company applied for Regional Growth Fund support through Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce’s Jobs and Growth Fund.

Reeves said A & S Compaction had been set a target of creating eight jobs and were confident of exceeding that forecast.

She said: “We have taken on four new members of staff in a matter of weeks and are anticipating employing several more as we are currently growing at a phenomenal rate.”
