Lucideon appoints scientist to lead on innovation

DR Pam Whitaker has joined materials technology specialist Lucideon with a brief to take its latest technological innovations from the laboratory into commercial environments.

Dr Whitaker joins the Stoke-on-Trent company in the new role of process innovation manager.

One of her first projects is to scale up MIDAR Technology, a new process developed by Lucideon that could change the face of the nuclear and construction industries.

MIDAR Technology allows materials to solidify without the need for firing and processing at high temperatures, which could provide a low-energy alternative in the manufacture of construction products.

The technology can also be used to encapsulate waste in sectors including the nuclear industry and it has recently undergone successful feasibility trials in collaboration with Sellafield in the management of low and Intermediate Level Waste (ILW).
