CWA engineers Birmingham city centre move

CIVIL and structural engineering consultancy CWA is to move to larger offices near Birmingham’s central business district as its order book continues to grow.

The consultancy is to move out of its current Jewellery Quarter offices and into Lancaster House, which is located on the corner of Great Charles Street and Newhall Street.

CWA has signed a lease on 3,400 sq ft of office space on the third floor of Lancaster House in a deal negotiated by property consultancies Johnson Fellows and KWB, which is based in the building itself.

CWA director Steve Wedge said the firm had outgrown its Caroline Street offices following record-breaking growth.

“We have recently taken on three graduate structural and civil engineers as well as an apprentice. We anticipate further growth to handle our expanding list of clients, so the time was right for us to move to larger offices in the city centre,” he said.

“Lancaster House’s location suits us perfectly, being on the edge of Birmingham’s central business district while still being close to the Jewellery Quarter.

CWA has recently won new business from Seven Capital, Morgan Sindell and Seddon Construction among others, and is involved in major construction projects throughout the UK.

Another new occupier at Lancaster House is Bell Cornwall Recruitment, which has taken 2,300 sq ft, while Blackhams Solicitors has recently relocated into larger office space in the building.

KWB partner Nigel Tripp said: “We have been advocating refurbishment of existing office space, as a measure to combat the lack of high quality new offices in Birmingham city centre.

“We’re delighted with the results at Lancaster House, particularly the speed with which the space has been let.

“This is a great sign to developers and property owners that office refurbishment will increase return on investment, particularly in the current marketplace.”
