Staffordshire urges top UK companies to enter Corporate Games

STAFFORDSHIRE companies looking to raise their profile and meet executives from top UK companies have been urged to enter this year’s UK Corporate Games.

Pottery firm Portmeirion is the latest company to sign up for this year’s Games, which take place in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire between June 25 and 28.

Portmeirion joins other businesses from the area to have already signed up the Games. They include: Bet365, Vodafone, Alton Towers, Matrix Fitness, Knights Solicitors, JW insurance, Johnsons Health Tec and Environmental Essentials. Staffordshire Police has also signed up.

The Games are Europe’s largest multi-sport festival for business and while showcasing the region’s investment potential are expected to generate more than £3m for the local economy.

Over 4,000 athletes from over 50 top UK companies will battle it out in 23 sports, including hockey, cricket, football, netball, volleyball, and dragon boat racing.

Some of the participating companies are: Intel, Allianze, Tower Watson, CH2M Hill, EY, Lloyds Bank, Air Products, Grant Thornton, QVC, Parson Brinkerhoff, Axa, CSC, HSBC, Mersey Care, Mersey Places for People, RDC, Vodafone, SC Harris, IAC, RAF Hockey, Denplan, Resdev, Asda, Bank of New York Mellon, Virgin Trains, Brose, IBM, PPI Insurance and Arup.

Key venues include Keele and Staffordshire Universities, Fenton Manor Sports Complex, Newcastle College, Trentham Gardens and Alton Towers, which will host the prize giving ceremonies.

Cllr Mark Winnington, economic leader at Staffordshire County Council, said: “We already know what a great place Staffordshire is to live, work and invest in and this is a great way of letting the rest of the country know what we have to offer. With over 4,000 people visiting the area over the four days the Games will also provide a welcome boost to our local tourism sector.”
