Moorlands businesses urged to join new chamber

BUSINESSES in Staffordshire have been urged to offer their support to a new chamber of commerce opening in the county.

The launch of the new Staffordshire Moorlands Chamber of Commerce takes place on Tuesday (June 9).

Based in Leek, the new chamber will offer practical business support services in locations across the Moorlands, including help for people to start-up or grow their business, gain new customers, export, develop their workforce and access funding and mentoring.

The new initiative is part of the accredited Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce, which works with over 4,500 businesses across the county through six local chambers.   Businesses joining the new chamber will have access to a support team of 40 employees and over 120 experienced business mentors.

The event will focus on boosting business growth in the Moorlands and will include presentations from John Capper, the president of Staffordshire Moorlands Chamber, and David Frost, chair of Stoke on Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

Jane Gratton, Deputy CEO at Staffordshire Chambers of Commerce said: “It is crucial that growing businesses can access the right help and support, at the time they need it, in their locality, and tailored to their needs.

“From our new offices in Leek, the aim is to connect and grow businesses at a local, national and international level.  It is also about developing business sectors, generating employment opportunities and boosting the local economy.

“Although this is a new initiative in the Moorlands, the chamber has been active in Staffordshire for over 200 years and is part of a thriving business network throughout the UK and overseas.”

The event, which is open to all businesses in the Staffordshire Moorlands, takes place at Westwood Golf Club in Leek. Those wishing to find out more should contact 01782 202222 or email kelly.thelwell@staffordshirechambers.co.uk.
