Ultra demonstrates highest level of protection against cyber attackers

DEFENCE supplier Ultra has demonstrated a cyber-hardened product following collaboration with ‘internet of energy’ firm PowerOasis.
The group, which has operations in Birmingham and Staffordshire, demonstrated the cyber secure, intelligent management solution at the SmartGrid Technology & Innovation event in London.
Ultra and PowerOasis, demonstrated how such a system can be added to critical national infrastructure to improve site management and performance while reducing operating costs without the need to replace legacy equipment.
The solution combines Ultra Electronics’ military grade endpoint security with PowerOasis’ expertise in infrastructure management and control.
Rakesh Sharma, chief executive of Ultra, said: “This innovative system provides the highest level of protection at a time of increasingly sophisticated cyber attacks.
“I am delighted to be working with PowerOasis on such an important project in such a critical market.”
The system, which became available yesterday, incorporates remote monitoring and control of multi-vendor multi interface legacy equipment environments supported by a sophisticated network operations centre application and network level big-data analytics.
Centralised control and enhanced site management of remote electromechanical plant with associated improvements in operating performance are intended to reduce maintenance costs and energy consumption.
Ultra says it has “unparalleled” endpoint security, independently validated by third parties.
John O’Donohue, chief executive of PowerOasis, said: “Adding this additional layer of security provided by Ultra Electronics to our infrastructure management and control platform, raises its existing protection to resist even the most sophisticated, well-funded cyber attackers, allowing critical national infrastructure to be remotely monitored and controlled, bringing all the associated cost benefits without the risk of cyber intrusion.”
