Brussels flights axed from Birmingham after terrorist attacks

FLIGHTS between Birmingham and Brussels have been thrown into chaos today following the terrorist attacks in the Belgium capital.
Separate attacks at the Brussels Metro station and airport have so far claimed the lives of more than 20 people.
Flights between the two cities were halted this morning with the 10.20am services to Brussels scrapped and fights which had been due in to Birmingham at 9.50am cancelled.
A statement on the Birmingham Airport website said: “Any passengers due to travel between Birmingham Airport and Brussels today should refer to the airline you are travelling with for more information.”
The cancellations affect the 14.10 service to Brussels operated by Brussels Airlines (Flight No: SN 2046), Lufthansa (LH 5605). Etihad Airways (EY 7202) and All Nippon Airways (NH 5128).
The 17.25 service to the Belgium capital operated by Brussels Airlines (SN 2048) and Etihad (EY 7270) is also affected, as are the 13.20 and 16.55 flights from Birmingham.
Aviation authorities in Belgium have said there will be no flights in or out of Brussels Airport until at least tomorrow morning.
Paul Kehoe, CEO of Birmingham Airport, had been due to give a series of media briefings today ahead of the arrival at the airport tomorrow of the new Emirates Airbus A380.
However, these were scrapped following news of the attacks.
Whether the events of today will have an impact on tomorrow’s event is yet to be decided.
