£30m manufacturer set for fresh growth after relocation

A BIRMINGHAM manufacturer with a £30m turnover has relocated to purpose-built facilities after utilising a new funding deal.

Kalsi Plastics, a family owned business, has developed the 80,000 sq ft site in Sparkhill in order to provide the extra capacity the business needs to meet demand.

As a result, it expects to take on between 15 and 20 more staff this year. Fit-out works are currently being carried out and the firm is expected to be fully operational by the early summer.

The business, which supplies wholesale and trade plastic building and rainwater products to the construction industry, was established in 1993 and is owned by brothers Sohan, Harbans and Kulwant Kalsi.

Over the last 10 years sales have grown to in excess of £30m.

Harbans Kalsi, director of Kalsi Plastics said: “We identified the need to acquire additional premises that would allow us to increase our manufacturing capacity. The development of this site offers us that capability and will enable us to develop our business further.”

Andy Perry, relationship director at Barclays in Birmingham, added:  “We have enjoyed a relationship with Kalsi Plastics for over 20 years and I’m pleased we have been able to support them in the next phase of their development.

“The new premises will accommodate several new extrusion lines representing further major investment which are funded by Barclays Asset Finance with a £3.5m funding line to enable the business to keep up with production demands.”
