6 ways to know you’re a workaholic

1. First one in, last one out

You get in hours before everyone else strolls in and leave once everyone has gone home. Your colleagues rely on you because they know you’re dependable and will always be the only one with a key to the office.

2. You live a stone’s throw away

Unfortunately the office doesn’t have showers built in so physically living there is out of the question, but all is not lost, you’ve got the next best thing – a flat with a view of the building itself. Not only can you have a speedy walk to work, but you can keep an eye on your favourite place from your own home.

3. Work is your life

When you finally get home, all you do is plan for the next working day. You would go on a business trip abroad and take a thick wad of work to do on the journey there.

You don’t understand why people thank god that its Friday and you long for Monday to arrive because you’ve sorely missed your job.

4. At work socials, you bring up work whenever you can

There’s an unwritten rule about work talk at after-work drinks or a day trip out. The idea is to get out of the office and have a break, but of course being a workaholic, you don’t quite grasp the concept of breaks.

5. Work takes priority

Work comes first, before eating, sleeping and socialising. You rarely take lunch breaks, typing and eating simultaneously has become a skill you’re quite proud of.

But all this rushing around and pushing yourself to your limit every day could be dangerous to your health and could actually lead to you needing (but obviously never taking) a few days off.

6. Holidays

What holidays? The only reason you’ve been abroad is because you volunteered to go there on business.

If all this sounds familiar, you are in fact a workaholic and should probably consider if this is what you want for your life. If not, cut down your hours, have a break, see the world from outside of a conference room and enjoy the freedom.
