Singapore contracts make training simulations a reality

THE business arm of Coventry University has secured two contracts worth a total of £3m with Singaporean government agencies.

Coventry University Enterprises (CUE) has won deals with the Singapore Civil Defence Force and the Home Team Academy to provide simulation systems to train staff in disaster and emergency scenarios from fires to crowd control.

Frank Mills, managing director of CUE, said: “Singapore is an acknowledged leader in disaster emergency management in South East Asia and our business relationship with them will help address other opportunities across the region and we are already working on some key prospects.”

Both contracts were won by CUE and its subsidiaries, Serious Games-Singapore and Serious Games International, alongside Dutch strategic partner XVR Simulation, which provides the advanced software platform.

Mr Mills added: “Each trainee can be put through a variety of scenarios ranging from a street fire to a major explosion in an oil terminal.

“The simulator scenarios are incredibly lifelike, allowing users to learn from their mistakes within a safe but realistic environment. Each instructor also has the ability to change the scenario in real time to reflect a true life emergency situation.”
