Micro-brewery to double capacity through move

A BIRMINGHAM micro-brewery is to become a little less micro with the move to new premises giving it the space to double its capacity.

Froth Blowers Brewing has been based in Erdington since 2013 after being set up by retired schoolteacher David Woodhead.

Following the death of his wife, Joyce, he downsized his large house in Four Oaks and set up the micro-brewery, which he now runs along with his stepsons Andrew and Neil.

Mr Woodhead said: “We are novices but we have made a good start and if we can double our output in the next 12 months, it will be worth doing. We decided that we might as well use some of the money from the house sale to build a bigger brewery.

“I have always been a ‘pub collector’ interested in old pubs, those which have not been spoilt, although there are very few left. Once CAMRA took off in the late 70s and early 80s, I started getting interested in beer from small breweries.

“To set up a business in your 70s is not normal – I do all the book-keeping, my stepson Andrew does the brewing and stepson Neil does the sales. The job keeps me active and it has gone well enough to set up another brewery.”

The micro-brewery is to move just 50 yards from its current base at Wood Lane industrial estate.
