Sky’s the limit for student accommodation in North Staffordshire

PRIMESITE Developments has appointed Core M as construction manager to deliver its Sky Building, a new state-of-the-art student development serving Keele University, Staffordshire University and Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Comprising en-suite rooms, studios and shared facilities including study rooms, a gym and a cinema room, the Sky Building is intended to improve the quality of student accommodation in North Staffordshire.

Primesite said that at present, the Keele and Newcastle-under-Lyme areas were suffering from a severe under supply of student accommodation.

Sky Building is intended to meet that need, being situated between the Keele and Staffordshire university campuses and just a mile from the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

One complete, it will be callable of accommodating up to 244 students. The aim is to get the building ready in time for the September 2017 student intake.

Core M is experienced in delivering similar projects, having worked on 40 Bank Street in Canary Wharf, 1 Blackfriars Road in London and Beetham Towers in Birmingham and Manchester.

The company has previously been appointed by Primesite Developments as construction manager on Herculaneum Quay, a new waterfront development in Liverpool.

Bobbie Johnson, director of Primesite Developments, said: ”We are very pleased to welcome Core M on board this exciting project. Like Primesite, Core M is a North West business with a national reach and a track record of delivering large and diverse projects.

“As a unique offer in the Keele area, Sky Building is already attracting interest from investors so it is important that the project be delivered on time and on budget. There is no other construction management team we would rather partner with to get the job done.

“With over 30,000 students attending universities within a two-mile radius of Sky Building, rental demand for this development far outstrips supply and we are pleased to be able to offer a much needed addition to the buoyant student marketplace in the area.”

Fully furnished en-suite rooms in Sky Building will be available for purchase from £52,000 and self-contained studios, complete with fitted kitchens, are from £59,950. Both will be offered with leaseholds of 250 years and a guaranteed rental income for 10 years.

To incentivise buyers, a selection of special offers will be introduced by the developer in due course.
