Birmingham pub set for new housing development

A FORMER Birmingham pub is set to be redeveloped into a new housing scheme under plans submitted to the city council.

Malvern Estates and Unique Pub Properties want to redevelop the site of the Cock Inn, Rubery Lane, Rednall.

The pub, which dated back to 1811, ceased trading two years ago and is site is now scheduled for redevelopment.

The plans suggest that the site could accommodate 12 homes and a supporting design statement has said that the area is capable of sustaining a new residential development because of the close proximity of mature housing and local amenities.

There is also a new development under construction by Belway Homes within 500 metres of the application site, which will be home to 46 two-storey semi-detached and detached homes, with a mix of three and four bedrooms.

The applicants have said that in conclusion, the proposed development would make better use of the land than a disused pub and that the proposed scheme is in a sustainable location.

“A design of high standard is proposed to provide a development of  dwellings with elevations fronting the public highway and which would enhance the character of the area,” states the design brief.

“The proposed development would represent a ‘windfall site’ by contributing to the Council’s Strategic Housing Land Allocation.”
