Strong first half for Michelin-starred restaurant

A MICHELIN-starred restaurant in Birmingham has enjoyed a strong six months in its new premises, surpassing its customer target for the period.

Adam’s Restaurant opened in Waterloo Street in January following a £1.5m renovation of the unit at New Oxford House.

The launch on Waterloo Street followed the success of Adam’s pop-up restaurant which opened in a former sandwich shop on Bennett’s Hill back in 2013.

Since January, husband and wife team Adam and Natasha Stokes have served more than 10,250 customers, well above initial targets.

The move has enabled the restaurant to offer a 36-cover dining room, a private dining room for parties up to 17 guests, along with a chef’s table located next to the kitchen area.

Mr Stokes said: “Although we were confident the new restaurant would be a success we’ve really exceeded where we thought we’d be after six months.

“The fact that every single member of staff moved across with us, has helped us no end and enabled us to really hit the ground running and provided solid foundations for the success we’ve enjoyed.

“The working environment we’ve been able to create has really helped. If this was a restaurant in London the kitchen would be so much smaller than the facility we’ve designed, and creating a chef’s table so guests can see the team at work has worked extremely well.”

Such is the popularity of the restaurant that diners have to make bookings up to three months in advance.

Birmingham accountants and advisory firm Moore Stephens has been working with the restaurant for the past three years.

Suk Aulak, a partner at the firm, said: “It was a big coup for Birmingham to keep Adam’s in the city following the success of the pop up restaurant.

“We’ve worked closely with Natasha and Adam on areas such as company structure and tax planning to help Adam’s lay the foundations for a long and successful future for the business.

“We’re delighted to see the restaurant thriving and look forward to supporting the business to build on this success as its reputation continues to grow and grow.”
