5 things to do in the West Midlands this weekend

Great Birmingham Run
The Great Birmingham Run, which is a half marathon, will return to the city on Sunday. If you didn’t manage to register to take part in time, head along and cheer on locals taking on the challenge that is sure to raise a huge amount of money for a range of charities. The route will take runners past some of Birmingham’s most iconic sights, including the Bullring, Edgbaston cricket ground and Cadbury World. Find out more here.

Harry Venning’s Clare in the Community strip cartoon has featured in The Guardian since 1996. In 2004 he adapted it into a BBC Radio 4 comedy starring Sally Phillips. On Saturday, the two will come together at The Studio to celebrate the comedy, which is now in its 11th series. They will discuss how they made a sitcom out of a cartoon and the relationship between drawing and performance. Find out more here.

ChoirChoir competition
16 of the best singing groups in the UK will battle it out on Sunday 16 October at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall to win their place in the grand final of the competition. The groups have already gone up against 160 choirs who entered the competition and now the stakes are high, with finalists arriving from areas all over the UK to take part. The competition will also feature live feedback back from the judges including Mary King, Will Todd and Stephen Connolly. Find out more here.

CraftsWeekend craft
Take the kids along to a family art session at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery this weekend and enjoy a day of creating with your loved ones. It is only £2.00 per child and they will learn all sorts that will get their imaginative juices flowing, as well as a variety of mediums and techniques.
