Crisp maker likely to create hundreds of new jobs

HUNDREDS of new jobs are set to be created as part of the expansion of Midlands-based snack firm Tyrrells by its new US owner.

Amplify Snack Brands completed the £278m acquisition of the Herefordshire business last month and indicated then that it had ambitious plans for the company, which is best known for its upmarket crisps.

Tom Ennis, Amplify’s president and CEO, said at the conclusion of the acquisition: “We took a tremendous step forward to build upon our Better-For-You snacking growth strategy with the acquisition of Tyrrells and its international portfolio of premium snack brands.

“We look forward to significantly broadening our international customer reach, meaningfully diversifying our brand, product, category, geographic and retail presence, as we realise the benefits of operating scale to fuel our future revenue synergies and continued sales and profit growth.”

Mike Hedges, who runs the Tyrrells business for Amplify, told the BBC that expansion of the business was likely to see hundreds of jobs created across the firm’s global presence.

Even leaving the EU was unlikely to influence the decision, he said.
