Eddie the Eagle swoops into Telford

SKI jumping legend and subject of 2016 film of the same name, Eddie ‘the Eagle’ Edwards will be making a special appearance at Telford Snowboard and Ski Centre in Madeley next month.

The Olympian who shot to fame in the 1980s as the nation’s only ever ski jumper will be taking part in a one-off question and answer session, allowing fans to find out more about his life, his love of ski jumping and his experience competing in the 1988 Winter Olympics after raising his own funding to follow his dream.

Despite finishing last in both the 70m and 90m events, Eddie remains a national record holder for British ski jumping.

In celebration of his visit, the centre will be offering Wii Skiing competitions against the Olympian himself, along with main slope tubing, tobogganing, tots donuts, ski club demonstrations and even free ski taster session on November 3.

Councillor Richard Overton, cabinet member for Housing Leisure and Health, said: “He is a legend, not least for his determination to compete regardless of the obstacles in his way, and I hope that positivity makes a lasting impression on everyone who meets him on the day.”

Eddie will also be making a special appearance at the Energize Awards held at Telford International Centre the same evening.
