7 haunted destinations on your doorstep

If you love things that bump in the night, you’re probably happy to find out that there are a whole range of spooky destinations right on your doorstep for you to ghost hunt and come face to face with terror. Get your torches ready and prepare to be scared to death…

Birmingham Town Hall
Birmingham Town Hall was originally built as a music hall in 1833 and since the building has been expanded and became home to public gatherings, political speeches and a whole range of events. The theatre within the Town Hall is said to be haunted by an old man, who can be seen smoking a pipe at the back of the seating area. The Great Hall is also reportedly haunted by two workmen who died there while building the roof over a hundred years ago. The two men can often be seen and heard and there has been even be reports of screaming and crashing metal – spine tingling stuff!

The Station Hotel in Dudley
The Station Hotel has become renowned for its freaky tales and the ‘Most Haunted’ team even paid a visit there back in 2003. Paranormal experiences tend to be ghostly sightings, whispering in ears, being touched, furniture moving on its own and even sheets being pulled off beds. Despite only dating back to the late nineteenth century, the venue houses a huge amount of spooky stories and has even welcomed starts including Laurel and Hardy, Bob Hope and George Formby.

New Street StationNew Street Station
A Jewish cemetery was dug up during the construction of New Street Station in Birmingham back in 1848 and many believe that with the tragic events that followed at the station, that the venue is cursed. Not only has there been countless suicides take place at the station, three people also died in 1921 during a collision of two trains. A man named Walter Hartles who took his own life in a waiting room has been spotted the most often passing through the station in the evening.

Aston Hall
Aston Hall is often referred to as Birmingham’s most haunted venue with a huge amount of paranormal activity being reported over the past century. The hall, which was built by Thomas Holte between 1618 and 1635, has an incredibly rich history, with visitors including King Charles I. The most active ghost at Aston Hall is the ‘grey lady’ who is thought to be Holte’s daughter and people often mistake her for staff dressed in period costume.

Drakelow Tunnels
Drakelow Tunnels, which are an incredible 3.5 miles long hidden beneath Kidderminster, served as a bunker for World War II and as a nuclear bunker during the cold war. The tunnels were used for a whole range of purposes right through to 1993. The tunnels are known for eerie tales as six people are thought to have died there during its construction. One of the most well-known spirits, Oswald, is often known to move objects and pull hair. Wartime music has also been heard playing in the tunnels, even though the site has been without electricity for years.

Cannock ChaseCannock Chase
The black-eyed child of Cannock Chase has made headlines all over the world. After not being spotted for 30 years, the spooky girl returned in 2015 with various sightings. There were multiple sightings of a young girl crying, but when visitors caught up with her, she unveiled black holes for eye sockets. Ghost hunts often take place across the chase with people on the lookout for the creepy youngster.

Dudley Castle
Dudley Castle is regarded as one of the most haunted castles in the World. Although there have been many spirits that have been reported at the castle, the most famous is the ‘grey lady’ who is believed to be the spirit of Dorothy Beaumont, who died at the castle shortly after her daughter died during birth. Creepy goings on include alarms going off in the middle of the night, a strange blue mist that floats throughout the bar and extreme drops in temperature.
