Warehousing set to bounce back as trampoline park after £2m investment

Former industrial warehousing in Coventry is to be transformed into the city’s first trampoline park as part of a £2.2m investment.

The warehousing, in School Lane, Exhall, was previously occupied by car components manufacturer RSM Industries.

It was acquired by commercial property company, The Wigley Group in early 2016.

The group has now agreed a long lease for the 53,525 sq ft unit with new trampoline park operator Red Kangaroo after planning permission for the change of use was granted by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

The park, with 75 trampolines, is due to open in July following an extensive five-month refurbishment. The business will create around 80 jobs.

Paul Wrightman, managing director of Red Kangaroo, said he expected the venue would attract around 2,000 visitors during a typical week.

He said: “We are delighted to be opening the first trampoline park in the area.  This will be our third in the UK after we are due to launch in Reading in May and Nottingham in June this year.

“We chose this area because there is currently no other trampoline park and this site gave us the size of premises that we were looking for.

“We expect to start works shortly with a view to opening in July.”

The main park will also feature a large half pipe, cardio wall, power tower and slide, ninja courses, dodgeball courts and an extra-large foam pit and gladiator beam.

“There will be a variety of sessions run including toddler, fitness, Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and disco nights as well as children’s and corporate parties. The park will also feature children’s go karting and climbing, a café and a quiet room,” added Mr Wrightman.

The Wigley Group, based at Middlemarch Business Park in Coventry, owns and manages business and industrial parks across the Midlands, as well as providing services relating to commercial property, facilities management and risk.

James Davies, director of The Wigley Group, said: “We are extremely pleased to have the right use for this unit which given its size and location, is a prime commercial site.

“Red Kangaroo will be undertaking a complete fit out of the building and we are looking forward to helping them establish a trampoline park here as part of their plans to roll out across the UK.

“The significant investment and job creation from this development is a great boost for the local economy and it promises to be an exciting attraction for the area.”

James Brookes, Associate Partner at property agents Bromwich Hardy, which negotiated the lease, said: “There has been a distinct lack of opportunities in the area for leisure operators and this building was identified very early on for a possible conversion, however it has been very important for us to find the right tenant.

“This was a rare opportunity to create an interesting scheme, incorporating a trampoline park, indoor climbing walls and a junior go-karting track making it a leisure destination at a very accessible site, which will add another string to the bow of on-going development within the Coventry and North Warwickshire area.”

Red Kangaroo were advised by Richard Morris Associates.
