Nightfreight drives ahead under new CEO

SUPPLY chain specialist Nightfreight has appointed Ian Smith as chief executive as part of sweeping plans for continued business growth.

With the support of managing director Peter Louden and group financial director Ian Horsfall, Mr Smith and the senior team of directors are spearheading the future growth and strategic direction of the Willenhall-based company.

The team will focus on the company’s nationwide B2B delivery network, as well as driving further innovation into Nightfreight’s Deliver2Home nationwide B2C two-man delivery network.

Plans are also underway to build on the company’s hybrid transport solutions, combining shared user, dedicated and infrastructure assets to a range of clients.

Mr Smith said: “With an ambitious business agenda and strategy, there has never been a better time for us to consolidate our position.

“A slight up-turn in the economy is enabling us to offer more sophisticated solutions across both the B2B and B2C marketplace. The strength of Nightfreight is its ability to mix and match the combination of dedicated and shared services, delivering a more variable cost proposition for our UK-wide customers.”

Mr Smith joined Nightfreight in March as a consultant before becoming chief operating officer and a member of the group board of directors.

He brings with him more than 20 years’ experience of senior management and board level appointments in third party logistics with brands including Exel Logistics, NYK Logistics, Unipart and Tibbett & Britten.
