Fast-growing Science Park startup scoops industry awards

AN INNOVATIVE Birmingham based technology start-up has scooped two industry awards in the same week it joined  a cluster of firms in the city’s fast-growing hub of digital entrepreneurism.

Software company cnap.me specialises in cloud computing solutions, and is the latest start-up to join Entrepreneurs for the Future (e4f), the dedicated programme that supports the next generation of tech entrepreneurs at Birmingham Science Park Aston (BSPA).

The company has been awarded two Excellence Awards for emerging technologies and strategic collaboration, and was highly commended in the Knowledge Transfer category in the West Midlands ICT Excellence Awards.

In a new approach to industry partnerships, cnap.me and Birmingham City University (BCU) have a joint venture partnership following a ‘spin-in’ to the university, and will using advice from e4f to roll out its new cloud delivery platform. The technology aims to provide anybody with a personal desktop, data and apps from the ‘cloud’ wherever they are and irrespective of the quality of internet access and technology available.

Anton Christodoulou, CTO at cnap.me, said: “BSPA provides an ideal incubator for businesses such as ours where we get to work with likeminded companies, coupled with excellent support from e4f to take our business and products to the next level.

“ We have forged a strong relationship with BCU, which has already led to a faculty adopting the cnap.me technology in-house, enabling students to access their personalised applications, data and learning programmes from any location. “

Other e4f clients were also shortlisted for awards. They included Civico, CTR Group, Datatecnics and Majestic 12.

Simon Jenner, head of incubation at BSPA, said: “It’s extremely encouraging to see so many of the ef4 start-ups both shortlisted in these coveted awards. The level of entries also demonstrates that with the right support and access to information and funding, start-ups and small businesses can break through into the market by providing innovative products and services.”
