10,000th user signs up for TheBusinessDesk.com

THE 10,000th registered user has signed up to TheBusinessDesk.com West Midlands, just ten months after the site’s launch.

The website, which is based in Birmingham and covers business news across the West Midlands, started in February, joining sister sites in Yorkshire and the North West. The network now has more than 55,000 registered users, with readers made up of business owners, senior managers and professionals across all industry sectors.

Marc Reeves, West Midlands editor, said: “I think it’s fantastic to go from a standing start to a readership of this size and quality in such a short time. So many friends and colleagues in the business community remark that they think TheBusinessDesk.com has been around for much longer, which I think says something about the impact we have made in 2010.”

Since launch, TheBusinessDesk.com’s team of experienced business journalists in the West Midlands has covered two budgets, the Comprehensive Spending Review and the general election, and has broken many major business stories in the region. These include the Cube development going into administration , the merger of law firms Shakespeare Putsman and Needham & James, and remarks by business secretary Vince Cable that the introduction of LEPs had been ‘maoist’.

The site has also worked with many blue chip commercial partners, running high-profile marketing campaigns for Hammonds, Marketing Birmingham, NatWest, PwC, Radisson SAS Hotel, Lloyds TSB, Aston Villa, BDO, Ernst & Young, Barclays Corporate and many others.

Mr Reeves said: “I would like to thank our readers and advertisers, all of whom showed tremendous faith  in their support for an early-stage business. I hope we have repaid that faith and we will continue striving to provide the best and most up-to-date business news service in the West Midlands.”

Since its launch in February, the site has added more channels for the manufacturing and creative sectors, as well as an up-to-date live shares and markets service.

David Parkin, who founded the business in Yorkshire in 2007, said: “Next year is certainly going to be at least as busy, with plans underway for further new features on the site and a packed calendar of business-focussed events across the region.”

“The popularity of our West Midlands site mirrors that of our other operations in Yorkshire and the North West and shows the appetite for focused regional business news from business owners and decision-makers.”
