Yorkshire-based executive appointed by Kier group
CONSTRUCTION firm the Kier Group has appointed former National Express chief executive Phil White as chairman.
Yorkshire-based Mr White first joined Bedfordshire-based Kier as non-executive director in 2006, and has been senior independent director since July this year. He is also currently chairman of Lookers and ACIS.
He succeeds Peter Warry, who will step down both as chairman and company director as December 31.
John Dodds, Kier's chief executive, said he wanted to thank Mr Warry for his contribution over the last 10 years, and welcome Mr White.
“Phil has extensive experience of both listed and private companies and will play a key role in guiding the group through the next stages of its growth and development,” he added.
Earlier this year the Kier Group reported a strong start to the financial with first quarter trading in-line with expectations.
It said that its business model was providing “insulation” against weaker demand and that construction, its largest division, and support services were enjoying strong growth.
Despite the housing slowdown, Kier said its order book was broadly the same as early 2006, with around 60% of its full year targeted unit sales completed.
