Firms shortlisted for police schemes

TWO major construction companies have been shortlisted to build two divisional police headquarters and a specialist training facility in West Yorkshire.

Balfour Beatty and Interserve are being invited to submit detailed bids next month for the three projects which will be built in Leeds and Wakefield.

The project is understood to be on schedule with construction expected to begin in spring 2012.

A final business case will be submitted to the Home Office and Treasury for approval this summer. Last year the Home Office endorsed the decision to give the scheme £216m of PFI credits.

The Leeds station will replace outdated facilities at Millgarth police station, in Leeds city centre, and Holbeck police station.

Further public consultation events at each of the three sites at Elland Road, Leeds, Havertop Lane in Normanton and Carr Gate, Wakefield, will take place over the coming months.
