Jobs boost as Biker Group opens new depot

Biker Group has opened a new depot in North Yorkshire, creating four jobs.

The family owned Leyburn-based company, which provides a range of services to the construction industry, including haulage, ground works, bespoke joinery, construction, waste management and recycling, has launched a 1.5-acre facility on Dalton Industrial Estate, near Thirsk

The expansion comes after a period of significant growth for Biker Group, which was established nearly 50 years ago by company chairman Tony Biker, who has been joined in the business by sons Matthew, Ben and Sam.

Expansion over the last four years has seen the company increase its workforce to 172 following the creation of 65 jobs and it has seen a 133% increase in annual turnover.

Biker Group estimates the additional jobs have directly generated an additional £10m for the local economy over the last four years.

Ben Biker said: “The new Dalton depot will initially enable us to focus on the concrete division, but also allow us to develop every area of the business.

“We are executing a five-year plan to grow the business and, as the business grows, we need to move further afield to support this and the new depot has excellent transport links to the A1 and the A19.

“Each department across the business has experienced significant growth over the last four years and we have been rewarded for delivering high quality, professional services as a lot of the growth is down to repeat business from clients.

“On top of the 65 jobs directly created during the last four years and many more through carefully vetted sub-contractors, the opening of the new depot will create another three or four jobs with the prospect of more.”

The new site will enable Biker Group to expand its Volumix Concrete division, which specialises in the supply and delivery of fresh ready mix concrete across North East and Yorkshire.
