Traffic Alert: Road closure: A1 North Yorkshire

The A1(M) in North Yorkshire is closed southbound between J51 (Leeming Bar) & J50 (Melmerby) following recovery of a broken down vehicle which was transporting a 52 tonne bridge joint and required specialist recovery.

The northbound carriageway has reopened, however the southbound remains closed as the 120 tonne crane used to recover the vehicle and load is in the process of being disassembled.

This is nearly complete, and there is a salting team on standby to treat the carriageway, which will then reopen.

Traffic is being diverted via the A6055 known as the old A1 which runs adjacent the A1(M) between J51 and J50.
