Ground broken on flagship scheme to deliver more than 1,600 homes

Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, has begun building works at its Dyecoats site to deliver more than 1,600 new homes for the city of Leeds.

Phase one of the project will feature 434 homes, including 100 for social rent and 138 for shared ownership.

The wider development will also include a food hall, public realm with access to the River Aire, and a new north-south link across the river.

Richard Cook, chief development officer at Clarion Housing Group, said: “The Dyecoats development exemplifies what Latimer is here to do by bring forward transformative regeneration that delivers affordable, high-quality homes and long-term value for communities.

“With our partners, we’re proud to be investing in a sustainable future for Leeds and ensuring those most in need benefit from this growth.

“Our ongoing collaboration with St George’s Crypt to provide temporary accommodation for people facing homelessness also shows that social impact is at the heart of everything we do.”

Tracy Brabin, Mayor of West Yorkshire, said: “Our multi-million pound investment into this flagship scheme will help deliver hundreds of affordable and sustainable homes for local families in a vibrant city centre neighbourhood.

“This is what devolution looks like – strong partnership working in collaboration to breathe new life into our brownfield sites and build a greener, more secure region which everyone is proud to call home.”

Councillor James Lewis, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “The start of building works on the Dyecoats scheme is a very welcome development as it will see 1,600 new homes delivered and it will regenerate a key site into a thriving new city centre neighbourhood.

“Over the last five years Leeds has seen more new affordable housing built than any other city outside London, so the fact this scheme includes a significant number of new homes for social rent and shared ownership is also very welcome.”

Stephen Van den Hoek, regional director of construction partner GRAHAM, added: “We’re proud to be working alongside Latimer to bring the Dyecoats vision to life.

“This is a development that not only delivers high-quality, sustainable housing but also puts social value and long-term community benefit at its core. It’s a privilege to be part of a project with such far-reaching impact.”
