Jobs to go at Skipton Building Society

AROUND 90 jobs are to be lost at Skipton Building Society.

The job losses will be made from its head office in Skipton and a satellite office in Scarborough.

The news comes after the society announced it was to raise its mortgage standard variable rate from 3.5% to 4.95% last week.

It is understood that around 50 jobs will be axed from the society’s head office and a further 34 at Prospect House in Scarborough.

Twenty new roles will be created, mostly in customer service. The society said those at risk will be offered voluntary redundancy.

Skipton Building Society’s chief executive David Cutter said the decision had not been taken lightly but was for the good of the business going forward.
