Business advisory firm, Quantuma, has promoted restructuring expert Manraj Mand to a director in its Yorkshire practice.

He is based in Quantuma’s premises in Leeds and also spends time in the firm’s Bradford office. This is one of 22 recent promotions confirmed at Quantuma.

Mand joined the firm in 2021 as a senior manager from a regional restructuring practice, where he had worked for the previous nine years.

He began working in corporate insolvency in 2012 and qualified as an insolvency practitioner in 2018.

He provides advice to owner-manager SMEs and has significant experience in the care industry, retail, and property sectors. He also advises clients who are in personal financial difficulty.

Mand said: “I really appreciate the recognition from my colleagues and continuous support from the business community.

Law firm Ware & Kay incorporating Pearsons & Ward – with offices in York, Wetherby and Malton – has made three new head and deputy heads of office promotions for its York and Malton offices. 

The promotions take effect immediately, with each individual combining their new responsibilities with their existing client-facing role within their areas of expertise.

Louise Davis has been promoted to senior associate and head of residential property in Malton.

She has been part of the residential property team in the York office for over 11 years since she qualified. 

She brings substantial expertise in all areas of residential property matters, including high-value property sales and purchases, managing buy-to-let investments, overseeing mortgages and re-mortgages, executing transfers of equity, and assisting clients with new build property purchases.  

Davis said:  “I am very excited to be joining the firm’s residential property team in Malton. 

“My aim is develop the firm’s residential property department and expand the existing client base across Ryedale and beyond.”

Catherine Edge has been promoted to senior associate and deputy head of residential property in York.  

Edge, who qualified as a solicitor in 2009 and joined Ware & Kay in 2020, specialises in all aspects of residential property. 

She assists clients with buying and selling both freehold and leasehold properties for registered and unregistered land, has extensive experience in buying and selling at auction, and is well-versed in purchasing buy-to-lets. 

She said: “I am thrilled to be offered this promotion. At a time when demand for residential property remains exceptionally high, I cannot wait to leverage my knowledge and experience to ensure a continued delivery of high-quality legal advice and service for our clients.”

Debbie Gilpin has been promoted to senior associate and deputy head of wills & probate in York.

She qualified as a solicitor in 2007 and has many years of experience assisting clients with the preparation of their wills, providing guidance in managing the administration of estates through probate, advising on trusts and inheritance tax, and providing advice regarding powers of attorney.

She said: “I am pleased to be offered this excellent opportunity to take a proactive approach in the development and success of the department. 

“My aim will be to continue to work with our expert team to develop the wills and probate offering.”

Sheffield City Region law firm, Taylor Emmet, has strengthened its senior leadership team with the promotion of Amy Harris to senior associate and head of property litigation.

She will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to her new role, having qualified as a solicitor in 2004 and specialised in commercial property disputes.

She also holds qualifications as a commercial, civil and employment mediator. She joined the firm in 2023 as an associate.

Harris will be responsible for overseeing all property litigation matters.

She said: “It is an honour for me to accept the position as senior associate and head of property litigation at Taylor Emmet.

“I am excited to lead my wonderful team and continue providing exceptional property litigation services to our clients.”

Northern College

Northern College in Barnsley has strengthened its employer links and expertise with the appointment of two new governors.

Matthew Stephens and Raymond Low have joined the college’s governing body with a focus on strengthening the organisation’s links to local and regional employers.

Mark Sanders, chair of the Board of Governors, Northern College, said: “Our three-year strategy builds on a long and celebrated history of changing lives through education. 

“It clearly states our ambition to ensure Northern College meets the needs of its students, communities and the economy now and in the years ahead. 

“The appointment of Matthew and Raymond will help us to achieve that. Their expertise will enable the college to build its links with employers and boost careers and skills development opportunities for students.”

With a career spanning over 25 years, Stephens has significantly impacted property development and regeneration in South Yorkshire and Wales where he grew up.

As the property development director at Castlebray Services, his portfolio includes landmark projects such as the Gateway Plaza, Barnsley, former National Union of Mineworkers headquarters, Sheffield, and South Quay Residential Development, Swansea.

His expertise covers leisure, commercial properties and the build to rent market.

Stephens, who has lived in Yorkshire for 27 years, is president of Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.

He also serves on the Barnsley 2030 group and Barnsley Inclusive Economy board, and chairs Goldthorpe Towns Fund board.

He said: “I am honoured to have been asked to become a governor at Northern College.

“I have spent the past 20 years working in Barnsley and across the wider Yorkshire region and am looking forward to working with fellow governors to take the college forward.

“I am passionate about what the college brings to so many people and I hope my experience can make a difference.”

Low has enjoyed a 40-year career providing technology services to the worldwide financial industry including managing teams across 30 countries. For seven of those years, he lived in Washington DC, USA.

His expertise includes business management, strategy, growth and delivery. His experience of recruiting and managing teams around the world has given him insight into what employers are looking for when they want to expand their workforce.

He moved to South Yorkshire in 1984 with Midland Bank (later to become HSBC) before becoming managing director of Transaction Network Services UK in 1995.

He took the business from a start-up to become one of the leading providers of payment networks in the UK. After that Low ran its European and then global payments business. 

Low said: “I am excited to join the team of governors at Northern College. I look forward to working with Emma and the team to help make the college the most successful residential educational facility in the country.”
