Yorkshire Business Masters judges announced

THE judges are lined up for the 2015 Yorkshire Business Masters Awards, which will recognise excellence, entrepreneurship, growth and enterprise in the region’s corporate community.

The awards, which will be held at The Queens Hotel in Leeds on February 26 2015, will be bigger and better than before with a new evening format and a black-tie dinner. And, for 2015, there are a number of new categories, including awards for successful performance by businesses with a public listing, and for businesses running apprenticeship schemes.

This year’s judging panel sees an impressive line-up of business figures from across the region.

Veteran stockbroker Keith Loudon, the Redmayne-Bentley senior partner who took home the Yorkshire Ambassador award at TheBusinessDesk.com’s Masters in 2013, will join the panel. Mr Loudon is a former Lord Mayor of Leeds and is a supporter of many charities and community projects. A champion of education, he pioneered ‘Right to Read’ and student placement schemes. He began his career in the stockbroking industry in 1962 and was instrumental in the merger that saw Redmayne & Co and JW Granger and Co become Redmayne-Bentley in 1965.

Sales and marketing director of Premier Farnell, Alan Paterson, also joins the line-up. London Stock Exchange listed Premier Farnell, which took home the Yorkshire Business Masters Exporter award in 2013, distributes technology and electronics products across the globe and employs 1,000 staff across its Leeds distribution centre and sales and marketing operation.

The deputy agent for the Bank of England for Yorkshire and the Humber, Will Holman, will be on the panel, too. He holds bachelors and masters degrees in economics and before joining the Bank, worked as an economist in the private sector and in government, most recently at an economics consultancy and the communications authority Ofcom.

A previous Yorkshire Masters winner of the Yorkshire Pride category, which recognises the most meaningful philanthropic initiative by a business, Daniel Gill, will also join the team. Mr Gill founded catering and events company Dine in 1998 and now with its own family of businesses, including Dine Events, Dine at Allerton Castle, Dine at The Mansion in Roundhay Park and Dine Hospitality, the business is going from strength to strength.

UKTI regional director for Yorkshire and Humber Mark Robson will also join Mr Loudon, Mr Paterson, Mr Holman and Mr Gill. The UKTI is at the forefront of the Government’s plans to double the amount of exports to £1 trillion by 2020. The organisation helps UK-based exporters succeed globally and assists overseas companies to bring high quality investment to the UK.

Nominations are open and all entries – you can nominate your own business or someone else’s – will go in front of our panel of judges.
