New director for Clydesdale Bank

CLYDESDALE Bank has announced the appointment of a new non-executive director.

Adrian Grace, who started his career with Leeds Permanent Building Society in 1979, has also joined the board of National Australia Group Europe.

Clydesdale Bank together with Yorkshire Bank form the UK banking division of National Australia Bank (NAB). NAB has previously confirmed it was preparing a £2bn-plus floatation of Yorkshire and Clydesdale banks.

Mr Grace is chief executive officer of Edinburgh-based pension, insurance and investment company Aegon UK. And before joining Aegon, he was the managing director of SME Banking with Lloyds TSB and CEO of Barclays Insurance Services. He has also held senior roles with Sage Group and GE Capital.

Jim Pettigrew, chairman of Clydesdale Bank, said: “We are delighted to welcome Adrian to further strengthen the boards. He has a first-class track record with outstanding business knowledge and experience which make him a great fit as we continue to build a better bank for our customers.”

Earlier this week it was announced that Yorkshire Bank chief executive David Thorburn is to leave to allow new leadership ahead of the proposed flotation. Mr Thorburn was also chief executive of Clydesdale Bank.
